Formulating skincare...

When it comes to formulating, Co-Founder and Product Developer Vicki Engsall goes through an intensive process of finding the best natural ingredients, that are ethically and sustainably sourced to include in our skincare collection. Because when it comes to products, it isn’t just about how nice they feel on the skin, it comes down to the three w’s.

The three w's...

1

WHO

Who is inside - which ingredients should be included in this product?

2

WHERE

Where are these ingredients sourced? Are they from ethical and sustainable locations?

3

WHAT

What are the benefits of this product / ingredients?

And when it came time to craft a daily moisturiser for our Brightening Range, we ensured that we remained cruelty free, vegan friendly and only sourced ethical & sustainable ingredients. Safe and effective skincare. No ifs, or buts, no hidden fine print.
Just Smarter Natural Skincare.

Multi Defence Moisturiser: Only the best natural ingredients

Hyaluronic acid is an acid that occurs naturally in the skin. It holds 1000 times its own weight in water and will naturally plump the skin. It helps the skin to retain its natural moisture by adjusting its moisture absorption depending on the humidity in the air.

Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba  contains vitamins A,B, D and E and is rich in antioxidants. It penetrates the skin rapidly and restores the skin's natural PH.

Kakadu Plum is also known as Billy Goat Plum. It contains the highest natural form of Vitamin C known in the world. It is high in antioxidants and is a gentle form of AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid).

Ectoin is a natural compound found in bacteria located in salty shores of Egyptian lakes. Research proves, Ectoin® protects skin from environmental stressors including high energy light and pollutants.

Even though our Multi Defence Moisturiser sits in our Brightening Range (because of the incredible pigmentation and dark spot repair) it also boasts many anti-ageing benefits from essential oils.

Essential Oils for anti-ageing

Limonene: a naturally occurring ingredient derived from the oil of citrus fruit peels, Limonene not only has a light citrus scent but also acts as a soothing agent and is an antioxidant. Proven to help reduce inflammation, Limonene minimises the effects of free radicals which have been linked to premature signs of ageing.

Linalool: A natural plant extract found in the oils of flowers and citrus fruits. Gentle and pure, it is an anti-inflammatory oil helping to regenerate and improve the skin’s firmness making it an excellent anti-ageing essential oil.

Citric Acid: Promoting skin renewal, Citric Acid helps treat several skin problems like pigmentation, wrinkles and dark spots that are all linked with signs of ageing.

Geranio or Rose Geranium Oil is a popular anti-ageing essential oil and is also classified as an active ingredient. Antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-ageing, this ingredient helps repair skin and improve its ability to heal, reducing the signs of ageing.

Essential oils provide many skin benefits and different oils provide different benefits. For example, in our Multi Defence Moisturiser we have included clary sage and lavender essential oils. Clary sage has soothing, calming and balancing properties for the skin whereas lavender has anti-bacterial, soothing, and healing properties providing a soft, sweet profile, exuding floral and earthy tones.

Many essential oils contain derivatives that occur naturally in them. These are listed on ingredients lists as ingredients such as limonene, linalool and geraniol.
They can have skin benefits when nurtured correctly and usually provide the unique scent that the essential oil provides. The scent will depend on the plant it is derived from. For instance, geraniol and linalool are usually found in flowers like rose and lavender whereas limonene is found more in citrus fruits and herbs.
As these components are naturally occurring, they are in very small quantities so unlikely to cause sensitivities to the skin. They can oxidise when exposed to air which can cause skin sensitivities, however, as long as the essential oil is pure and fresh it can actually provide benefits to the skin while being completely safe.

Are essential oils bad for sensitive skin?

When essential oils are mixed with jojoba, it protects it from oxidation as jojoba smothers and protects the essential oil, inhibiting it from oxidising, therefore keeping it safe.

As for anti-ageing essential oils, reach for Linden Blossom which is included in every one of our age-defying products.
